1962 Roman Missal: Feast of St. Joseph, Spouse of the BVM, I Class
Lesson / Epistle (Left DRB vs Right TLM English)
Left (DRB of USCCB passages – Romans 4:13, 16-18, 22): For not through the law was the promise to Abraham, or to his seed that he should be heir of the world; but through the justice of faith. Therefore is it of faith, that according to grace the promise might be firm to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all. (As it is written: I have made thee a father of many nations.) Before God, in whom he believed, who quickeneth the dead; and calleth those things that are not, as those that are. Who against hope believed in hope; that he might be made the father of many nations, according to that which was said to him: So shall thy seed be. And therefore it was reputed to him unto justice.
Right (1962 TLM English – Ecclesiasticus 45:1-6): Beloved of God and men, whose memory is in benediction. He made him like the glory of the saints, and magnified him in the fear of his enemies, and with his words he made prodigies to cease. He glorified him in the sight of kings, and gave him commandments in the sight of his people, and shewed him his glory. He sanctified him in his faith and meekness, and chose him out of all flesh. For he heard him and his voice, and brought him into a cloud. And he gave him commandments before his face, and a law of life and discipline.
Gospel (Left DRB vs Right TLM English)
Left (DRB of USCCB passages – Matthew 1:16, 18-21, 24a): And Jacob begot Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ. Now the generation of Christ was in this wise. When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child, of the Holy Ghost. Whereupon Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing publicly to expose her, was minded to put her away privately. But while he thought on these things, behold the angel of the Lord appeared to him in his sleep, saying: Joseph, son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife, for that which is conceived in her, is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a son: and thou shalt call his name JESUS. For he shall save his people from their sins. And Joseph rising up from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him, and took unto him his wife.

TLM Propers (Right side only):
Collect: O God, who in Thine unspeakable providence didst vouchsafe to choose blessed Joseph to be the spouse of Thy most holy Mother: grant, we beseech Thee, that we may deserve to have him for our intercessor in heaven, whom we venerate as our protector on earth. Who livest and reignest…
Gradual: Ps. 20:4-5 The Lord hath prevented him with blessings of sweetness: Thou hast set on his head a crown of precious stones. He asked life of Thee, and Thou hast given him length of days for ever and ever.
Offertory: Ps. 88:25 My truth and My mercy shall be with him: and in My name shall his horn be exalted.
Secret: We render unto Thee, O Lord, the duty of our service, humbly entreating Thee to preserve in us Thy gifts through the prayers of blessed Joseph, Spouse of the Mother of Thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord, on whose venerable festival we offer to Thee this sacrifice of praise.
Preface (full): It is truly meet and just, right and availing unto salvation, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty, everlasting God: and that we should with due praise magnify, bless and proclaim Thee on the festival of blessed Joseph, the Spouse of Thy most holy Mother. For he is that just man who was given by Thee as the faithful and prudent servant to be the Spouse of the Virgin Mother of God, and as a father in charge of Thy family, to guard Thine only-begotten Son, conceived by the overshadowing of the Holy Ghost, even Jesus Christ our Lord. Through whom the Angels praise Thy Majesty, the Dominations adore, the Powers tremble; the Heavens and the hosts of heaven and the blessed Seraphim together celebrate with exultation. With whom we also pray Thee to join our voices, saying: Holy, Holy, Holy…
Communion: Matthew 1:20 Joseph, son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife, for that which is born in her is of the Holy Ghost.
Postcommunion: Be with us, O merciful God, and through the intercession of blessed Joseph the Confessor, mercifully guard Thy gifts within us.
Prayer over the People: (Lenten commemoration) May the sacrifice of the Mass, O Lord, which we have offered, purify us and protect us from all harm through the intercession of blessed Joseph.
Last Gospel (John 1:1-14) in DRB + modern literal English from original Greek (2026 scholarly style)
DRB: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him: and without him was made nothing that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it… And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we saw his glory, the glory as it were of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
Modern literal (2026 scholarly): In the beginning the Logos existed, and the Logos was with God, and God was the Logos. This one was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him not even one thing came into being that has come into being. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it… And the Logos became flesh and tabernacled among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only-begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.
