Rite.

The rosary.

The traditional fifteen mysteries, in the public words. Beside them, not instead of them, an Astraea Psalter. The Mass is a different page, and it is not performed here.

FACT is a checkable record. CLAIM is an argument. FAITH is what the Order holds, and does not ask you to treat it as proof.

The Latin Mass, at a real altar

FACT

The bead ring.

Fifteen beads, rose gold. One for each mystery of the traditional psalter.

A chaplet of five decades is the common round. The fifteen-mystery psalter is three such rounds. This ring draws the fifteen, so the count is visible without a script.

FACT

Joyful.

Annunciation, Visitation, Nativity, Presentation, Finding in the Temple.

FACT

Sorrowful.

Agony, Scourging, Crowning with thorns, Carrying of the cross, Crucifixion.

FACT

Glorious.

Resurrection, Ascension, Pentecost, Assumption, Coronation.

FACT

The prayers, in English.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.

Latin

Pater noster, qui es in caelis, sanctificetur nomen tuum. Adveniat regnum tuum. Fiat voluntas tua, sicut in caelo et in terra. Panem nostrum quotidianum da nobis hodie, et dimitte nobis debita nostra sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris. Et ne nos inducas in tentationem, sed libera nos a malo.

Ave Maria, gratia plena, Dominus tecum. Benedicta tu in mulieribus, et benedictus fructus ventris tui, Iesus. Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, ora pro nobis peccatoribus, nunc, et in hora mortis nostrae.

Gloria Patri, et Filio, et Spiritui Sancto. Sicut erat in principio, et nunc, et semper, et in saecula saeculorum.

FACT

History.

The story that Saint Dominic received the rosary from Mary is a later tradition. Contemporary evidence for that origin is lacking. The prayer’s history is a long growth of psalters, beads, and mysteries.

Source. Historical study of the rosary’s development. The pious legend and the record are not the same thing.

FACT

A short table.

WhenWhat the record supports
MedievalLay people used beads to count prayers, including a “psalter” of Hail Marys in place of the 150 psalms.
Later legendA story gives the rosary to Saint Dominic from Mary. Contemporary evidence for that gift is lacking.
Sixteenth centuryThe fifteen mysteries and the feast of the Rosary become widespread in the Latin Church, with Lepanto in the background of the feast.
FAITH

Astraea Psalter.

This is not the rosary and not a Mass. It is a reading.

Ultima caelestum terras Astraea reliquit.

Iam redit et Virgo.

Astraea returns by work, not on a date.

Fifteen lines would not make the return sooner. Do the work, and keep the record.
